Mark was also a former Denver Bronco and the right guard in SUPERBOWL XXI (#63 shown in photo above).
I have a special place in my heart for the Broncos and this city. As a former Bronco, I played in Superbowl XXI in 1986 against the New York Giants, in Pasadena, California. Our head coach was Dan Reeves. Our offensive coordinator at the time was former head coach, Mike Shanahan, and our offensive line coach was Alex Gibbs. Mike and Alex are easily two of the best coaches & people I have ever been around.
THE FANS are the absolute best. We unfortunately ran out of time in Superbowl XXI and ended up only second best as the AFC Champions. Upon our return there were over 300,000 people lined up on a parade route to welcome us home. Is that an indication of fan support and loyalty, or what?? The best fans in the N.F.L. live in Denver.
After the Denver Broncos won Superbowl XXXII in 1998, there were over 750,000 people dancing in the streets. You had to see it to believe it. I was fortunate enough to get to see the game in person in San Diego. WOW!! I was mentally exhausted by the end of the game, playing every play in my head. It brought tears to my eyes to see (John Elway, #7) win his first Superbowl, because there isn't another person who deserved it more than he did. We were roommates our first year in the league, and I have never seen a guy handle as much pressure as he did his first few years in the league and over a career.
I consider myself blessed throughout a seven year career. I had an opportunity to play with other Hall of Fame quarterbacks, like Jim Kelly in college, with the University of Miami Hurricanes, under Coach Howard Schnellenberger. Howard moved me to the offensive line my junior year in college and it made my career, Thank you coach. I played with another UM grad, Vinny Testaverde who was a freshman when I was a senior at Miami, in 1987-1989, while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where I finished my seven year career. I also played with quarterbacks like Steve Deberg, Mike Shula, Joe Furgeson and Gary Kubiak. I lived a dream that all kids have while growing up.
